Solitary Blue by Cynthia Voight
by Myriam Philitas and Alex Garvey 6th graders

A Solitary Blue is a book about a boy named Jeff Green. In second grade his mother left home. His mother left him a note telling him that she needed to help the children of the world. He was left to be raised by his father, who Jeff thought was cold and uncaring. He did not see his mother for many years. Finally, he was invited to visit his mother for the summer. When he got there he remembered all the warm kindness his mother had brought.  Jeff is quickly captivated in his mother’s love. He forgot about all the pain and sorrow. But as the story continues, he realizes that his mother is not who he things she is, and his father does truly love him. In this story, Jeff is taken on a journey of love, friendship, trust, and betrayal.
Readers opinion:
This book was a little upsetting. It took you through a great journey. Jeff learns a lot about himself and develops certain qualities. -- Alex Garvey
